Where Did OK Come From?
We asked OK itself. It started as a spelling joke and was supposed to last a week.
Oll korrect.
In March 1839 the Boston Morning Post printed O.K. for "oll korrect," a deliberate misspelling of all correct during a craze for jokey abbreviations. A year later Martin Van Buren, nicknamed Old Kinderhook, ran for president with O.K. Clubs behind him, and the word went on over the telegraph, around the world and, in 1969, down to the Moon.
